Orkut going to add Scrap Alert Feature

Orkut is growing better and better day by day..Now orkut says that it would be installing a new feature in few days called Scrap Alert...

With scrap alerts you can be on any orkut page and find out that you have received a scrap - that very minute. You could be browsing your friend's photos, and find out "hey! I just got a new scrap." Then you can click on the "Scrapbook" link to reply on the spot. This way you'll be free to explore all of orkut, comforted in the knowledge that when you have received a new scrap, you'll know about it that moment.

This Feature would be in our control means if we want to disable it we can do it from our settings page..

Orkut will be rolling this feature out over the new few days for all users

Is There a 'Scrap All Friends' Without Advertisements?

We guess everyone out here is fed up with scrap all spam. Those who once used to scrap all their friends to greet, now have an advertisement below their scraps. No doubt this looks odd and embarrassing. So today, we'll provide you a few tips to disable this advertisement below the scraps.

Here are a Couple of things You Can Do Disable Advertisements:

a> Use a scrap all script which is ad free :

• You can use Scrap All provided by Orkut Plus! (No Advertisements) - Click Here to Install


• Now Navigate to http://www.orkut.com/ScrapAll to use this feature


• Send scraps to your friends without any advertisement.

b>Disable Advertisements in Existing Scrap All Scripts :

Those who feel they have a better scrap all installed or are not comfortable installing/uninstalling again and again can use this method to disable advertisements. (Thanks Mr Nobody)

• Write the message in the text box which you want to send to all your friends.
• Now to disable the advertisements write <.script> without "." as shown in the screenshot.
• Now, send the ad free scraps.
• That is all :0)

UserScript - Diwali Orkut Theme for Those Who Loved It !

For those who were wondering if they'll have to wait till the next diwali to enjoy the Orkut Diwali Theme, then here is some 'expected' good news for you. Mr Nobody has made a userscript of the diwali theme so that you can use it even whenever you like.

Awesome New Feature - Choose Who Gets To See Your Album, Testimonials and Videos!

Orkut is finally giving user security and privacy an ace spot. Now, you can block non friends from videwing your pics, testimonials and videos. This is an awesome feature considering the misuse of personal stuff was on the rise.

How to Use This Feature?

• Navigate to http://www.orkut.com/PrivacySettings.aspx
• You can choose the options at the bottom.
• Finally, you can invite your sister(s) and relations to add their images.

A Genius Thought and an End to Scrap Flooding on Orkut ?

Finally we are seeing an end to scrap flooding on orkut. The race is now over. Orkut kept changing their codes, disabling the effect of the flooders which were updated again and again. Now, A simple but genius thought has put and end to all this. Now, if you flood your scraps beyond 100,000 they will now be shown as 100,000+ . So the hardwork of all those heroes who were in a race of the top scrap holders has finally come to an end.You can have a look at the screen shot to get an perfect idea.

Whats Next?The brave men on orkut are revolting against this new feature and putting forward their points. You can catch the whole (revolt) discussion at the orkut help group and here is something official, which orkut guide had to say replying to the strong opposition of the feature

Thanks to everyone for their input. Seems like a hot issue since eventhose who haven't reached the limits are writing in. As Rakesh et almentioned, we've put this limit in place to help curb automatedspamming on the site (which is against our Terms of Service and canalso have consequences for email servers, etc.).
But don't worry! You'll still get scrap notifications based on yourpersonal settings, you can see new scraps when you visit yourscrapbook, or you can always delete old or duplicate scraps to getbelow the 100,000 mark.

A New Feature to Efficiently Kick Out Spam From Your Community!

The owners of large communities now have a powerful, efficient and less time consuming way to kick out spam from their communities. Owner or any moderator just needs to check the topics which they want to report as spam. This will delete the topics at the same time flag the profiles of the posters. You just need to navigate to your community and you'll find this feature. We have not studied this feature in depth, so we are not sure whether the poster gets banned or removed from the community. We'll leave that experimentation to you :0)

Can My Profile Have an Orkut Star or Orkut Medal of Certification?

According to Orkut - Answer is Yes!

We thought only orkut staff or google employees have a star or medal on their orkut profiles and we are happy to confess that we were wrong. So is there a way to get orkut certification and a medal or star in your profile? Well, please read the first line again :0)

How to Get Orkut Certification, Medal or a Star?

First of all, let us have a look at what orkut has to say on this:
orkut.com began issuing virtual medals a few years ago to show that certain profiles were orkut-certified. The orkut team recently started granting them to recognize certain users' contributions on our orkut Help Group. If you haven't visited our Help Group yet, check it out! It's a great place to post questions and info about orkut.

Note: Medals are issued or removed by the orkut team at our discretion. We will not add them to profiles upon request.

So, you just need to be active in the orkut help group.
